Is Marbella the Golfing Capital of Spain?

If you are planning a golf holiday to the Costa Del Sol https://www.360golfholidays.com/spain/costa-del-sol/ look no further than Marbella, where you will find some of the best golf courses in all of Spain.

For over 30 years this region has been the epicentre of golf tourism for UK golfers. This comes as no surprise as Marbella boasts warm weather, a wide choice of golf courses and a short flight making this an ideal location for a golf break.

Why travel to Marbella for a golf holiday?

  • Play golf on several high-quality local courses
  • Immerse yourself in Spanish culture in this charming Moorish old town
  • Take advantage of the excellent bars and restaurants
  • Unwind and take in the scenery in “Orange Tree Square”

There are over 20 local golf courses in Marbella that are available for visiting golfers. The best times to visit are in the spring and autumn when the weather is most pleasant for golf. The summer is very busy with holidaymakers from around Europe, plus the temperatures are too hot for golf.

Where to stay during your golf break to Marbella?

Marbella is a 45-minute drive from Malaga airport and the town provides several good golf hotels to visit.

Westin la Quinta golf resort views

The Westin La Quinta is a customer favourite. This five-star Andalucian styled resort has on-site golf courses and is well located for Marbella and Puerto Banus. We recommend a night out in nearby Benahavis where you will find some superb local cuisine.

As an alternative, we recommend the Guadalmina Spa and Golf Resort. Located on the coast in a desirable residential estate. This resort has two golf courses on-site and stunning scenery of the sea and a hillside backdrop. Perfect for nights out at the nearby towns, including Estepona Old Town.

With so many golf courses to choose from, golfers can find their first trip to the area a little perplexing. Here we walk through some of the more popular golf courses to visit during your golf trip to Marbella.

Los Naranjos Golf Club

The Los Naranjos golf course is divided into two distinct nines. The undulations in each hole on the front nine necessitate the use of a buggy. In this regard, the second nine is more accommodating, but it still presents some interesting challenges. There’s a lovely clubhouse and atmosphere to enjoy at this club.

Marbella Golf & Country Club

This Robert Trent Jones-designed course has distinct American characteristics, as shown by the impressive clubhouse. Skill must be used to perform well on this difficult course with beautiful scenery. The Marbella Golf & Country Club is a must-play whilst on your golf trip.

Westin La Quinta Golf Resort

This fantastic resort course, located just outside of Puerto Banus, is made up of three nines that wrap around the golf hotel. La Quinta Golf Course may not be the most difficult golf course you’ll ever encounter, but it will undoubtedly be one of the most fun.

Santa Maria Golf Club

Santa Maria Golf Course makes use of natural undulations to make each hole on this golf course interesting. A welcoming and friendly club with good food and a pleasant clubhouse.

Rio Real Golf

One of the Costa Del Sol’s most well-known and oldest golf courses. Rio Real Golf Club is a parkland course with palm and olive trees lining the fairways. Some of the holes have sea views, adding to the championship standard of this golf course.
